"Haunted" pics for characters and costume ideas

(starts at the Lemp in August 08)

May

May is a ghost hunter.  She is old, walks with a stoop and has very, very thick glasses and squints all the time.  She is like a female Mr. McGoo .  The fact that she cannot see well is displayed in her costume.  Probably lot’s of jewelry, and her different clothing choices does not match, (i. e. two different colored shoes, one stocking, a striped blouse with a polka dot skirt, etc.)  She probably wears a funny wig and perhaps she gets it knocked off and puts it back on backwards.  Perhaps there is a moment in the show when she applies her makeup but does it badly.  When ever she takes her glasses off she squints as if she can’t see.

(Pics of Mr. Magoo)

I have ordered some VERY think coke bottle glasses for this character that everyone can use,
but you may want to use your own.
Here's someone who calls them self "MRS" Magoo.  But I would expect she should be squinting if she doesn't have her glasses on..

Click here to see videos of Mr. Magoo.  Watching these will give you a fresh idea of "bits" to do during your show.

Fuzz

Coveralls, mirrored sunglasses, utility belt, and ray-gun.  His outfit has patches, perhaps a badge, but the badge has no real authority, (any badges do NOT say “police, sheriff, etc.), and he looks like a ghostbuster, but he is all business.)

Billy Bump, (or Billy Lemp if show is at the Lemp Mansion)

Billy   -  Billy wears late 1800’s dress.  Striped pants, solid colored jacket with tails cut, ascot? He has a pipe in his pocket.

I think you can use your "Dickens" costume and modify it slightly for Billy.

John Bratkowski in his Dickens outfit.

Harry Chin

Chin is wearing a traditional Chinese outfit with bright colors and traditional Chinese hat.  He has a small goatee and mustache.  I have used those gag glasses to make my eyes Chinese for this character.  He talks with a thick Chinese accent.  He is based upon Inspector Sidney Wang from Muuuurder by Death, ( Peter Sellers), who is based on Charlie Chan , so you can probably get away with a suit, and turned up hat, (see picture from Website).  But the preferred is the bright outfit.  I believe you’ll get better audience response from a bright traditional outfit.

You'll have to watch is for 3 minutes and 40 seconds to see and hear Inspector Wang well.

Inspector Wang on the left, Sam Diamond on the Right.
This is the preferred Harry Chin "look".

The Reverse Eight-noose.

Be careful with this.  Do Not leave it in the room with the audience.  do not put it around anyone's neck, other than Fuzz.

This is (so far) the only 'wrong' running noose I know applications for. It to tie a package and ... for tieing YoYo's. Experts use one loop to make it possible to let the yoyo spin on the end and to call it up with a little firm pull. The yoyo has to spin fast and the noose has to be trimmed carefully.
Starters use two loops and tie it firmly.
Use eventually an overhand-knot on the cross-marked ends.
(This is not the best way to fasten your YoYo. If you want to use the best thechnique   you have to un-twine a line with two yarns and re-twine one of the yarns by doubling it with the YoYo in the middle. Free-spinning the YoYo my wear out the loop.) The Reverse Eight-noose the WEB.
